Almost 100 Arrested Worldwide in Phishing Scheme

Today the FBI arrested about 33 people in California, North Carolina and Nevada for a
phishing sheme which cost victims about 1 million dollars. Egypt also arrested individuals involved in this "con". What I find interesting is that it just reinforcing the need for international laws regarding the web. Security is global, not just national.

  1. It is encouraging to read about the cooperation of Egyptian officials on this. However, how many times has the bank told their customers that they would NEVER ask for credentials in emails? User education is the problem here, and will probably remain the problem. The solution is to protect people from their own ignorance.

  2. I'm pleasantly surprised that the Egyptian authorities cooperated. Frequently the laws in many places are so archaic that a scam like this isn't illegal. It's not that the authorities in other countries don't want to cooperate; they can't because none of their laws have been broken.

    Cheers,
    Dave
